
Medical Assistant
Phoenix, AZ
This position will work out of our Bella Vista location.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant works under the delegation of a licensed practitioner to perform duties as directed to assist in providing care to assigned patients. Medical Assistants are expected to perform in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Perform chart prep for the upcoming visits and ensures all necessary forms are completed, reviewed, and accepted into the patient’s chart
- Greet and room patients
- Perform delegated medical tasks and procedures
- Capture vitals, medical history, reason for visit and other applicable information and documents in the patient’s medical record
- Perform visual acuity screening as part of a routine physical
- Administer injections
- Assist provider with procedures
- Perform blood draws, collect of urine specimens and then perform urine drug screening; Communicate results to the ordering provider
- Clean exam rooms between appointments and dispose of the biohazard waste
- Respond to patient messages via patient portal and telephone
- Initiate prior authorizations or medication refills upon receiving request
- Check the EMR’s fax queue regularly and scan patient information into the appropriate chart
- Stock rooms with the appropriate amount of inventory and removal of expired supplies
- Troubleshoot patient issues and concerns with assigned provider
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Medical Assistant (MA) certificate or completion of a CAAHEP accredited/medical assisting program or medical assistant experience
- MA that supports psychiatric patients must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid and current CPR, First Aid Certification and an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card
- Six months of healthcare experience preferred
- Six months of medical assistant experience preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, demonstrating professional writing skills
- Excellent communication skills virtually and in person
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of customer service protocols and engagement strategies
- Knowledge of, and ability to use, electronic record keeping systems (EMR, billing software, insurance carrier portals, spreadsheets, etc.)
Physical Working Conditions and Office Setting Description
- Some travel required to field locations to facilitate execution of responsibilities.
- Requires prolonged sitting, standing, frequent bending, stooping, or stretching
- Frequent and prolonged operation of computer, keyboard, and telephones required
- Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
- Driver’s license and valid insurance may be required when operating a personal vehicle
